BIDMAS = Brackets, Indices, Divide, Multiply, Add, Subtract 

So first multiply what is in the brackets. 

(91 * 92)    =  8372
(2 * 3)                6

Now times this result with what is outside the bracket. 

8372    *    1        =  8372
  6             6              36

We can simplify this to 
232  5          or    2093  
        9                    9

(91/2 * 92/3)* 1/6

Multiply the fractions in the bracket first (BIDMAS)

(91 x 92)       8372
________  = _____
(2 x 3)             6

8372        1            8372
------- x  ____  =  _____
6              6               36

This simplifies to:

2093                     5
____   or    232  ___
   9                        9

Using BIDMAS, first work out what is in the brackets. multiplying 91/2 and 92/3 gives 8372/6 (multiplying numerators together and denominators together). Now all is left to do is multiplying 8372/6 by 1/6 which gives 8372/12. Lastly, we find that 8372 and 12 have the common factor 4; so dividing both by 4 gives the simplified fraction 2093/3.

(91/2 x 92/3)/6

= ((91 x 92) / (2 x 3)) / 6

= (91 x 92 / 6 ) x 1/6

= (91 x 92) / 36

= 8372 / 36

=2093/9                (which is also equals to 232.56)

Hi Sam, 

If you follow the rules of BIDMAS, everything in the brackets should be simplified first. Within the brackets you should simplify by doing each seperate division and then multiplying them - 91/2 is 45.5, 92/3 is 30.66, multiply them to get 1395.33. Then you want to time this by 1/6 to get 232,55,

1. Collect together all numerator and denominator expressions

(91 x 92) / (2 x 3 x 6)

2. Break down larger numbers in to their smaller (ideally prime) factors

Here 91 = 7 x 13

and 92 = 2 x 2 x 23

also 6 = 2 x 3

now place back in and cancel any terms possible

(7 x 13 x 2 x 2 x 23) / (2 x 2 x3)

= (7 x 13 x 23) / 3

= 2093 / 3 = 697 and 2/3

Sorry there was a typo in the first sentence.  You want a common denominator of 6

You want the fractions to have a common denominator of For the first fraction you want to turn 2 into 6.  To do this you simplify multiply by 3, so this is what you do to the numerator (91).  To get from 3 to 6 you multiply by two, so do this to that numerator and you get 184.

Therefore you should end up with: (273/6*184/6)1/6
