Inverse

dont get what inverse is or how to work out the mising numbers.

my homework says 37+x=69 and x/4=8

Answers
you have to subtract 37 to get the x by itself, and then you have to do the same thing to the other side of the equation. so: 37 + x = 69 -37 -37 x = 32 x/4 = 8 this time you have to multiply by 4 to get the x by itself. but then you have to do the same thing to the other side 4(x/4) = 8(4) x = 32

that didn't come out the way i typed it: 37 + x - 37 = 69 - 37 (subtract 37 from both sides), leaving: x = 32
