Let total number of eggs be x.

So, 3% of x were broken and there were 18 broken eggs.

We can write this as: 0.03*x =18
x=18/0.03

x= 600 eggs (answer).

We were told 18 eggs were broken, and also that this is 3% of the number of eggs.

We can start by finding what one percent would be: If 3% is 18 eggs, 1% will be 6 eggs - (As 3% divided by 3 is 1%, you would then divide the 18 eggs by 3, which gives 6 eggs)

We now know 1% of the broken eggs is 6 eggs. We want to find the number of eggs in the whole batch, which is 100%. We therefore multiply the 6 eggs by 100 to give 600 eggs broken in total.

18 eggs = 3% of the total eggs. To find 1% we divide by 3.

18/3 =6, so 1% of the total eggs = 6 eggs. To find the total number of eggs (100%) we multiply 6 by 100. 

6*100 = 600. So the total number of eggs in the batch was 600. 

When working with percentages it is always useful and easier if we know what 1% of your total is.

or simplify that and just do 18/0.03 = 600(100% of the eggs)

To find out 1% we would do 18/3 = 6. 

To find 100% we do 6*100 = 600. This is because 1*100 gives us 100% 

Therefore we have 600 eggs in the batch.

18 eggs is 3%. 18/3 = 6 = 1%. If 1% is 6, 100% is 600 (100*6)


There were thus 600 eggs in the batch.

Let there were  a eggs 

3% of y =3 divided by 100 x a

             = 3/100 x a     ------(1)

if 3% equals to 18 then 

(1) becomes

18= 3/100 x a 

1800=3a

a= 1800/3

a=600

So there were 600 eggs in the batch.


18 divided by 3% = 6, so 1% is 6 eggs

whole batch or 100% = 6 x 100 = 600 eggs

First (and easiest) step is to find 1%. 

We know 3%= 18 eggs, so to find 1% we do 18 divided by 3= 6

So 1%=6 eggs, therefore 100%= 6x100.

The answer is 600 eggs in the batch

3% is the same as saying 3/100. 3/100 (i.e. "3 divided by 100") = 0.03

To find 3% of a number, you multiply that number by 0.03

Let's call the original number of eggs "n". We know that 3% of the number n = 18. We can write this as follows...

0.03 x n = 18

or as

0.03n = 18

To find out what "n" is, we can move the 0.03 across to the other side, but this time we have to divide instead of multiply. So

n = 18/0.03

18 divided by 0.03 = 600. So there were 600 eggs to begin with.

So the 3% is 18 eggs. 

Easiest step is too find 1%, divide the 3% by three 18 divided by 3 = 6

So 1% is 6. Now find 10% so times 6 by 10 = 60

So 10% is 60. Now to find out how many were in the batch times the 10% by 10 again, which will the equal 600 eggs.

We know that 3% = 18 eggs 

Find what 1% is first = 18 divide by 3 = 6

1% = 6 therefore, 100% ( the whole amount) is 6 x 100 = 600 altogether in the batch. 

All these questions involving percentages, can be solved using a very simple rule with the same format.

1.Set up two equations, percentages on one side and the other object in the other (in this case eggs)

3%=18 eggs

100%= x eggs

2. We perform cross multiplication, and divide by what's left to obtain x

(100x18)/3= 600 eggs in the batch

From the question, we know that 3% equals 18 broken eggs.

Now we have to find out the 1% of the batch. I know that 1% of the batch is 6 eggs (18 divided by 3 is 6 and 6 is the 1%).

If we times 6 by 100, we know that the batch has 600 eggs in it altogether.

x - 100%

1% - 6 eggs

6*100=600

Answer: 600 eggs

If 18 =  3%, then 6 = 1% (18/3). (We need to workout what 1% is in order to work out 100%).

6x100 = 600. (This  = 100%). 

So there were 600 eggs in the basket to begin with.

What would you find if you divide by 3? Wouldn't you find 1%? Once you know that it is easy to find how many eggs the batch was made of initially. I hope it helps.

This problem means :

3% (3 out of 100) eggs are broken and that represents 18 eggs out of the total number of eggs (unknown).

Therefore mathematically 

3/100 = 18/?

Applying knowledge in equivalent fractions

3 changes to 18 by multiplying it by 6 so....                                                  

100 changes in the same way(multiplying by 6) ____100x6=600

In conclusion total of eggs represented by 100% is 600 in number.

 

let initially batch contain 100 egg. then 3% break i.e 3% of 100 =3

if 3 egg broken then total egg=100

1 egg broken then total egg=100/3

if 18 egg broken then total egg= 100/3*18=600 egg.

Try to work out what 1% would be and then multiply by 100 to get your answer! In this case 18 divided by 3 makes 1% = 6. Now multiply 6 by a hundred!
