Are you trying this at home? You're asking about two different types of distillation - the separation of a mixture into it's component parts based on differing boiling points. Take a look here for an introduction ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distillation#Simple_distillation ) but remember the key is to slowly increase the temperature and mesure the volume of liquid produced at each temperature. You start with the right equipment, room temperature, a controllable heat source and some way to measure the temperature of the liquid
