solve for x

4(8-x)=40

Answers
expand the brackets: 32-4x=40add 4x on both sides and subtract 40 from both sides. This gives you -8=4x, thus 4x=-8. Divide both sides by 4, hence x=-8/4,   x=-2

It can be solve in two ways. First expand parentheses: 32-4x=40subtract 32 from both sides: -4x=8Divide both sides by -4: x=-2  (Answer)Other way is, divide both sides by 4: (8-x)=10Omit parentheses: 8-x=10Subtract 8 on both sides: -x=2Multiply both sides by -1: x=-2 (Answer)

4(8-x)=40First you want to distribute the four into the parentheses: (4•8) and (4•x).That gives you 32-4x=40Next you want to subtract 32 from both sides: (32-32) and (40-32)That should give you -4x=8Then you divide -4 from both sides: (-4x/-4) and (8/-4)x=-2

4 (8-x ) = 40=> (4* 8 ) -  (4 * x ) = 40=> 32 - 4x = 40=> -4x = 40-32=> -4x = 8=> x = -8/4 => x = -2Cheers.....Have a nice day............

multiply everything inside the bracket (8-x) by everything outside the bracket (4).4*8 - 4*x = 4032-4x = 40-32 from both sides-4x = 8divide by 4 on both sides-x = 2multiply by -1 on both sidesx = -2

We have to try and eliminate x, so first we must multiply the bracket out on the left hand side. Doing that, we get:32-4x=40Now we need to subtract 32 from both sides, to eliminate it, that gives us :-4x=8 now we must divide by 4 on both sides, which gives:-x=2now we must divide by -1 to get x only, doing that we get:x=-2

First of all expand the brackets / multiply the brackets on the left side of the equation giving us:32 - 4x = 40Then we can bring the 32 over to the right side by misusing 32 on both sides giving us:- 4x = 8We can then solve for x by dividing by -4 on both sides giving us:X = - 2

32-4x=40     (resolve the brackets)-4x=40-32    (isolate x)-4x=84x= -8       (x both terms by -1)x= -2         (divide both terms by 4)
