Is the (x-1)+3 all under the divide sign or is it just the (x-1) and the + 3 is seperate??

If the +3 is seperate then first thing to do is move it onto the right side of the equals sign and change it to -3. So 4-3 = 1 Then you need to multiply this by (x-1) = x - 1 So the equation now reads 3x+2 = x-1 Collecting the like terms gives 2x = -3 so x = -1.5
