Children’s author tutoring creative writing Tutor to key stage 2 children.
About me I am a published children's author with a passion for writing, teaching and all things creative.
My books so far are: ‘Ernie Gonzales: The Determined Dreamer’, ‘Escape from Paradise’, ‘The Well of Dreams’ and ‘Dreaming with Ernie’; a comprehension workbook to accompany my first novel. I also have a TES shop and make all my own resources based on my books and favourite books of mine. My resources cover comprehension, creative writing exercises and PHSE/mindfulness.
I throughly enjoy working with children and encouraging them to learn and to stretch their ability. I particularly enjoy working with children to unlock imagination and to guide them to express their story ideas on paper and directing them in sentence structure to best bring the story to life.
I find it a joy to see children grow and developed in their learning, and love teaming up with parents to find ways to help their children improve and reach their goals. My books are available on Amazon and you can find more information on my website: Www.bethshepherd.com My resources can be found at: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/bethshepherd2 I am fully DBS checked.
Experience Since becoming publishing my first book in 2012 I have been actively involved in schools author visits for book readings, signings and workshops, whilst also working as Zumba instructor and Drama teacher in a SEN college. Previously I have worked as a Teaching Assistant in a variety of schools for many years. I am currently focusing on sharing my passion for creativity and teaching, through tutoring creative writing, whilst working on exciting new book projects.
My teaching approach I like to offer a positive and creative approach to learning. One that promotes an excitement for learning and a desire to discover new things. My focus is on creative writing and helping your child develop the skills, confidence and ability needed to express their wonderful imagination through their writing.
I strive to keep my lessons unique and tailor made to each child. I follow the school curriculum and various popular study books, and from this make my own resources which I can tailor to each pupil. I work from my own books and other childrens fiction that I feel is suitable to each individual child with the aim of capturing and igniting their unique imagination. Areas I will cover is story planning and writing, practicing writing descriptions such character, setting, senses, action, dialogue, plus comprehension exercises (if this is required), writing for different purposes (included persuasive writing). I can help children prepare for 11+ enterance exams.
Please note that while grammar and punctuation will naturally arise during teaching and I will support their development and learning in this area as best I can, it is not my focus and I am not a grammar teacher and I will focus mainly on the art of expressing ideas though writing.
