About Diana-Elena

I am a Medical Engineering student at University of Bradford. Maths and Physics are my passion so I have lots of awards to attest it. I won two NASA competition and I was a chess champion in my country.

In 2013 and 2014, alongside my team members (2 and 5), I obtained the 3rd and 2nd prizes at the NASA Ames Space Settlement Contest. This gave us the opportunity to present our work abroad, in front of a NASA representatives commission. Over the course of 8 months, we were asked to redact a scientific paper on building a permanent, self-sufficient orbital home to sustain life for more than 1 million people. The first part of our paper focused on settlement design, using 3D modelling tools (Maya Autodesk, Google Sketch Up) to create blueprints for the orbital station, utility robots, citizen houses and equipment. The second part of our project focused on infrastructure solutions for the settlement and any social issues that may arise in this kind of unfamiliar environment.

I helped children with special needs to do their homework for almost 5 years. During this time I learned that every child is different and you need to adapt yourself.
Working (most of the time) with children with different types of disabilities, helping them on a biweekly basis with their homework and having social activities with other volunteers in weekends.

I love to work with little children and help them understand Maths and Physics. Two years ago I attended a special session to make sure that my teaching skills are adapted for them.

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems.

My approach varies depending on the student’s needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible.
