The short: 1st class degree in Biochemistry, Several years of post graduate research,
Ex- Science teacher and 6 years of experience tutoring.
Sometimes the difference between understanding a topic is as simple as having the right person explain it in the right way at the right time. We all learn differently and we all remember things in different ways for different reasons and it is the job of a good tutor to understand and utilise this.
I have taught science at various schools to students as young as 11 (Year 7/KS3) all the way to 18 (A-levels/KS5) and at University in labs and focus sessions to students older than myself (28 at the time of writing).
I have a first class degree in Biochemistry and have accrued a few accolades during my undergraduate degree. From there I moved into working in postgraduate research labs for several years (with some associated teaching and training responsibilities) before undertaking a part time PhD. However due to external circumstances I interrupted my studies and began teaching at a secondary level and have since made the decision to move into full time tutoring.
I have tutored consistently since my second year of undergraduate study and have enjoyed a steady stream of wonderful students through word of mouth alone.
I am deeply passionate about my subject and accutely aware of the demands of current UK Syllabi and University curriculums and admission criteria.
Therefore I am able to offer a practical approach to getting the necessary grades and, if appropriate, offer a taste of what's beyond secondary education in preparation for University applications.
I value every student I have and thoroughly appreciate the trust placed in a personal tutor.

Tutoring Approach:
My Approach to tutoring varies according to the needs of the student.
For all of my students I place gaining a firm knowledge of the curriculum or core concepts at the heart of my lessons. However, depending on how helpful and/or interested the student is in developing this knowledge I am always pleased to provide extra insight or add some flavour to subject matter.
As a scientist, it actually surprised me how relevant and exciting(if you're a bit of a nerd) the national curriculum actually is.....it's just very easy to forget that when you have multiple exams on it to worry about!
I have high standards regarding the work ethic of my students (otherwise it's a waste of your money) and I set regular sets of work and practice questions to help cement knowledge and then shape it into a format that will yield the deserved exam results.
