Hello! I'm Ed.
I graduated from the University of Edinburgh, with first class honours in Philosophy and Psychology. At Edinburgh, these subjects are taught within the sciences - the Psychology course is largely taken up with statistics and experimental design, and my Analytical Philosophy modules were mostly in Philosophy of Science, such as social cognition, perception, embodiment, and artificial intelligence.
I also have over a year's research experience in Cognitive Neuroscience, including a paid position at the University of Sussex's Sackler Centre for Consciousness Science.
However, I maintain a keen interest in the humanities, and read widely in continental philosophy (such as Nietzche and Hegel) and cultural theory (e.g. Zizek).
My tutoring experience is in advanced English and university entrance preparation to Korean students at Seoul National University. One student gained entrance to the highly competitive Master's in European Politics at the University of Oxford. I also edited dissertations for foreign Master's students at Edinburgh.
Philosophy and Psychology can be daunting subjects - I always found statistics very hard to get to grips with, and there are some seriously difficult concepts in Philosophy. This means I am an understanding tutor, and can make these ideas accessible to everyone.
If you'd like help with English, Philosophy, or Psychology, or essay writing and critical thinking in any of the social sciences and humanities, then you've found the right person.
In 2017 I moved to South Korea, where I taught English to adults while studying Korean. Since 2018 I have been enrolled on the Korean Government Scholarship Program. I am currently doing a master's in Political Science at Seoul National University.
I have Korean TOPIK level 5, so I would be an ideal Korean tutor for a native English speaker who is just starting out.
