Beyond understanding music, I understand people. I believe that the act of teaching is foremost collaborative: challenge and achievement are shared in the symbiotic tutor-pupil relationship. What I value is that moment of discovery between teacher and student--instantaneous, tangible, and distinct--that highlights each interaction. My thorough understanding of musical concepts and conscientious preparation for lessons enable animate and spontaneous interaction with students of any age and background. My performing and teaching experience is music-based, but has evolved to include other artistic mediums such as visual art, dance, and composition. I completed my MMus degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London with the creative direction of my first cross-arts collaboration ‘Ligetilines’, which explores the Ligeti Solo Cello Sonata through fresh watercolour, choreography, and composition. I play the cello professionally and enjoy choral singing (I currently sing with the Edinburgh International Festival Chorus), have trained as a teacher of the Suzuki method, and am completing the LRAM diploma to enhance my private teaching practice and refine my educational approach.
