Hello!
Let me introduce myself - my name is Margaret, and that's me standing outside Anne Hathaway's Cottage in Stratford upon Avon. I do love Shakespeare and have also studied
Victorian Literature for my Masters, but I have wide interests and expertise in the area of Film and Media as well as Literature. The videogame industry is something I also find
fascinating. I am currently Head of Media Studies in a busy Department which consistently scores the highest value added scores in my school jointly with our English Department, where I also teach A Level and IB. So you can see I have a great track record when it
comes to student success.
I am an experienced senior teacher and Head of Department who has worked in a range of 11-18 schools. My areas of specialism are English Literature, English Language and Film and Media Studies and I have many years experience as an examiner for GCSE, A Level, and more recently Cambridge International A Level and the International Baccalaureate in these subject areas.
I graduated from the University of Oxford in 1980 with a 2:1 in English Language and Literature and later completed a University of Liverpool Masters Degree with Distinction and then a PGCE specialising in Secondary Education. Since then throughout my teaching career I have gained a solid reputation for outstanding subject knowledge and enabling all students to achieve their potential.
I have a great deal of experience in raising the achievement of learners, and have worked closely with dyslexia and EAL specialists. I have also enjoyed working in an international boarding school teaching students from many different countries as diverse as China,
Russia, Thailand, Japan, Germany, Malaysia and Dubai and I enjoy working with students from different cultures. I have also considerable experience of tutoring elite athletes who need additional help to fit in school work alongside training, and I have a lot of experience in mentoring students through extended essays and dissertations.
As a personal tutor I have guided many students through the university application process leading to them receiving offers of places at top universities such as Oxbridge and the U.K. Russell Group, so I can also advise on making great personal statements.
If you choose me as your tutor, I promise I will do everything I can to help you and to guide you towards your academic goals. You will always be able to rely on me being well prepared and well informed.
