My name is Laura, I am originally from Romania, and I am currently based in Budapest. I have an MA degree in Philosophy and Latin from the University of Glasgow (First Class, highest first in the College of Arts), and a MPhil in Philosophy from Cambridge University (Merit). I am currently studying for an MA in Philosophy at the Central European University.
I studied Latin intensively in high school and later as part of my degree. I am well-qualified to teach grammar from basic to advanced level. While at Glasgow I won prizes for the best student in pre-Honours Latin (2012, 2013), was awarded the prestigious Blackstone medal by examination (2013), and won the Ramsay Memorial Medal for the best performance in Senior Honours Latin (2015). Apart from language teaching, I am also competent with literature and historiography, in particular Augustan poetry, Cicero, and Tacitus.
I am also able to provide tutoring in Philosophy, Critical Thinking and Formal Logic up to undergraduate level. In philosophy I specialise in ethics, philosophy of language, and aesthetics, and am competent in all major areas of philosophy normally taught as part of undergraduate degrees. I am able to teach introductory formal logic, including propositional, first-order and modal logic, and basic probability theory. While at Cambridge I worked for two terms as a Logic class marker, which included grading first-year homework, participating in tutorials, and providing assistance and support to students.
