Hi, I'm Lily!
I'm a patient, committed and creative tutor, specialising in English, Philosophy and Classics.
I believe that building a strong rapport with a student is essential for inspiring enthusiasm for the subject, which is of course the foundation for confidence and success. I love to watch this enthusiasm grow and so, in collaboration with each student, I fine tune my sessions to make sure they are FUN as well as productive. As well as mastering exam and memorisation techniques, my sessions will focus on lateral thinking and creative approaches to essay questions. This will help students to produce not just high quality, but highly original work, which is the way to make that leap from good grades to great ones! I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2017, where I studied Philosophy and Linguistics, which has equipped me especially well to tutor English Language and essay subjects like History, Classics and, of course, Philosophy. However, I have achieved excellent results throughout my academic career (All As at GCSE, AA*A at A-Level, 2:1 in my degree) and so would be capable of tutoring most core GCSE subjects. See subjects section for details. I have plenty of tutoring experience: At school, I participated in a weekend literacy scheme for year 2 pupils, practicing reading and writing one on one. While in sixth form, I ran a Latin and a Philosophy club for year 6s in a local primary school. I also tutored a year 8 boy in Science and Maths for his common entrance exams. At university I tutored a small group of year 11s for their English language and literature GCSEs and also mentored a group of twelve young people (ages 15-17) as they designed and carried out a charity campaign.
I look forward to starting our tutoring journey together!
