I am an experienced and enthusiastic English teacher with 12 years experience. In this time I have worked in a range of different schools, working with students from all different backgrounds. I have also worked as a Head of Department and Leader of English Curriculum. My experience is primarily in secondary and higher education (age 11-18), however I also have experience working as a tutor and school consultant for English and literacy at primary age (5-11).
I completed a degree in English and American Literature at the University of East Anglia, achieving a 2:1. This was followed by obtaining my qualification in Teaching and Education and Qualified Teacher Status. I was made a lead practitioner after two years and a Head of Department the year after that. I have also worked marking and moderating GCSE exam papers for several years and completed some voluntary work with exam boards in creating and writing exam papers for GCSE English Language and Literature.
I really enjoy working as a tutor and developing relationships with my tutees which allows us to pinpoint the exact areas which need work and the strategies required to make progress. I am passionate that English is accessible to everyone and over the years have a huge store of methods and techniques which can be adapted to combat the many barriers to learning.
I am fully DBS checked.
