I am a Psychology graduate from the University of Bath with extensive experience working in mental health in both clinical and research roles.
I have worked with clinical populations within the NHS and charities including PTSD, complex PTSD, depression, anxiety, personality disorder, adults and children with learning disabilities incl. autism spectrum disorder and asperger's syndrome, and neurocognitive disorders after acquired and traumatic brain injuries. I also worked to support individuals improve their wellbeing, education and gain meaningful employment after the Grenfell Tower fire in London.
My research portfolio includes both quantitative projects, such as: Research Manager for the Clinical Neuroscience Translation hub (University of Melbourne), a study into avoidance behaviour within PTSD (University of Melbourne), fieldworker on a bullying intervention looking at improving children's wellbeing (University College London) - alongside qualitative projects, such as: considering children's care in the social services after domestic homicide (University of Melbourne) and looking at the mental health and wellbeing needs after a national crisis (South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust). I will also take up a new role at University College London researching an intervention for dementia, however this is currently delayed until winter due to COVID-19.
I am very flexible and will work to accommodate the student's preferred way of learning, and what works best for them. I have experience in both tutoring and providing face-to-face education support, and understand that everyone learns differently and responds well to different styles of teaching.
The first meeting will involves getting to know each other and finding out preferred ways of working, then will involve personalised goal setting so that there is a target to work for. Lessons will include a mix between teaching, activities and practice questions/essays. Homework and outside-session tasks can be provided if the student feels this would support their learning.
I am extremely positive, and always work to encourage students to be the best they can be. It's important the student feels empowered in their learning and motivated to learn more. Education can be daunting especially if a student feels behind on a subject, but my sessions aren't about focusing on what's going wrong, only what can be done to help with improvement.
