I have a BA from Goldsmiths, University of London in History, and a PGCE from the West London Institute (Brunel University) specialising in Middle School English and Reading. I worked for 3 years in Primary education, obtaining QTS, before moving into Further Education colleges, where I worked for a further 20 years as a teacher of English, covering GCSE, both in Language and Literature, A Level English Language and A level Literature, and teaching Study Skills and written presentation to university students. I also taught adult basic education and EFL to Cambridge Proficiency level.
I then became a Vice Principal (Curriculum and Quality) for around 13 years, a non-teaching senior management post, in a number of different colleges. I took early retirement in 2013 and have been doing one to one home tutoring, mostly in GCSE and A level English, but also doing some Entrance Exam Preparation.
I have 3 grown up sons, the youngest of whom is dyslexic, so I have spent time training to support him and other dyslexic students. I am a friendly, warm person who really enjoys the experience of working one to one with students, and who understands the importance of building a good relationship with them, as well as really carefully establishing which skills require development, and what their study goals are.
I am very familiar with all the current A Level and GCSE syllabuses and have developed extensive teaching and learning materials to support my students to succeed in achieving their goals.
