Hello, I'm Sam and I have recently obtained a first class Masters in Biological Sciences with honours (Biological and Medical Sciences) from the University of Liverpool. I am about to start a degree in Medicine at Keele University (Ranked 6th in the UK, The Guardian University Guide) in September this year (2017). To be accepted into medicine I had to take the UKCAT entrance exam. I also had to obtain relevant work experience in hospitals, care homes and general practices which consisted of paid and voluntary work. This being the case I would be an excellent tutor for anyone interested in applying to medicine and I would be happy to guide you through this application process in order for you to gain acceptance into Medical School.
During the honours year of my degree, I collaborated with a research team to identify novel biochemical factors and stemcell-like mechanisms that drive the regeneration of muscle tissue to understand the mechanisms that drive muscle tissue regeneration and the progression of muscle wastage in the ageing population. I have also taken taught modules which included; Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Virology, Immunology, Biological Statistics and Cell Signalling.
My project during my masters year consisted of identifying novel factors that are involved in regulating the vascularisation of tumours. This involved assisting researchers in developing new treatment methods that work to inhibit vascular development in tumours, hence starving tumours of oxygen and nutrients. Ultimately this research will aid in discovering treatments that inhibit tumour growth or shrink tumours completely. Also, I chose to take part in a research internship at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand as part of my masters year. This internship consisted of using surgical techniques on soft cadavers to identify the occurrence of arterial blockages after the use of cosmetic dermal filler injections.
I am also a fully qualified First Aider in St. John ambulance and have been involved in the St. John ambulance organisation for over three years. For one of these years, I worked as a first aid trainer teaching first aid to University students. Therefore, anyone looking to take part in a first aider course I would be qualified in teaching you how to perform first aid and the detail required to become a proficient First Aider.
I believe with my background in biomedicine and as a first-hand researcher in the biological field, I would be a proficient tutor for students currently studying biology at GCSE, A Level or degree level. I would also be proficient in assisting people through the medical school application process and first aid training.
