I graduated from the University of Leeds with a research masters in Classics. My thesis (12,000 words) focuses on the worship of Ancient Greek water deities, specifically Nereids. Previously I attained a 2.1 for a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Civilisation where my research concentrated on Ancient Greek river gods. As I am used to teaching with the use of material and textual evidence, I could apply my skills to other subjects such as English or History.
I have tutored an SEN student in GCSE Classical Civilisation (OCR exam board). I have helped him to organise his work and create useful revision notes to further aid his assessments. With respect to teaching larger groups, I have given papers on my own research at two academic conferences at The University of Leeds and Manchester. I have also developed and delivered presentations to schools about taking Classics at undergraduate level outlining the course content, module choices and necessary skills at each level.
My approach to tutoring first and foremost focuses on the needs of the student and follows the required specification of the school exam board. I discuss the learning aims and objectives of the tutee's course and plan how we can implement this together in sessions and with additional work. I emphasise that the filing and organisation of the work done outside the sessions is essential to both their own understanding of what they are studying and for my own planning of sessions.
