Personal Description:
I am currently a student at the University of Nottingham completing a BA in Philosophy. I have A-levels in English Literature, Philosophy and Economics, with an AS in Mathematics. I am an enthusiastic person who is passionate about languages and philosophy.
My love for the Spanish language and completion of its GCSE enthused me to continue to study it outside my Philosophy degree at the University of Nottingham. I chose to study Philosophy at degree level since besides being passionate about its content, I believe it truly develops great skills in analysis and written and oral communication.
Tutoring Experience:
My experiences in working with young people has given me a well-rounded understanding of tutoring; both how to teach a subject most effectively, but also how to encourage those who may not be confident in their own abilities.
Throughout sixth form I worked closely with the English department in starting a literary festival to teach year 10 students creative writing and various art skills in the form of workshop sessions. This involved carrying out classes to engage pupils in creative tasks that would aid them in writing their English coursework pieces.
My previous work experience also involved working on the National Citizen Service scheme. I learnt to communicate effectively and lead a diverse team of 16 and 17 year-old students. This gave me the skills to encourage students to explore their personal skills and strengths without necessarily being an assertive teacher; but rather, I assumed the role of a mentor who motivated the young people to reflect and challenge themselves in various environments.
Tutoring Approach:
I intend to cater each lesson to what the tutee requires. For younger Spanish students I aim to make the subject engaging and interesting; my lessons shall be centered around discussion, with various puzzles, flashcards and games. For secondary or GCSE Spanish students who are working towards exams I shall draw on exam material specific to the board they are studying (Speaking, Reading, Writing and Listening exams) and use my own exercise sheets too.
For Philosophy students taking exams (typically secondary and A-Level only) I aim to use a variety of reading material that I was given during my years of studying the subject, as well as essay questions and revision notes that I used myself. I aim to communicate my passion for the subject through in-depth explanations and discussion with the pupil on the topics they aim to study.
