I recently graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. I plan on becoming a middle school teacher, and have been working with children between the ages of 4-13 since I was 16. I've worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor, and as a camp counsellor. For the last three years I've been tutoring students from grades 1-8. I've helped my students become better writers and improved their reading skills.
I've learned that as a tutor, it is important to be patient and understanding with students. By doing so, it creates a mutual trust between myself and my future students. If they struggle to comprehend the subject material, by being patient, it demonstrates that my students can rely on me to be supportive. This can be reinforced by encouraging them to take their time when they are problem solving.
